Sym2B has a unique know-how and uses dedicated software to give the driver the feeling he is driving an actual vehicle.
Most of the information needed to drive a vehicle comes from visual cues. Sym2B computer generated images are clear and smooth, with a panoramic field of view for a full immersion of the driver. Mirror views consist of up to 3 mirrors, each with up to 2 images (PIP). Surrounding sound let the driver localize noisy vehicles even without seeing them.
All heavy vehicle types from any manufacturer can be accurately simulated: rigid bus, articulated bus, double-articulated bus, midibus, double-decker, trolleybus, tramway, truck, truck with trailer and semi-trailer. A validated physical model reproduces vehicle dynamics including skid, derailment, jack-knife, or roll-over. Motoring of all power and using any fuel (diesel, CNG, hybrid diesel-electric) can be simulated. Manuel, automatic, and robotized transmission are also modelled in a realistic way.
Our software tools, inherited from nuclear power simulators, can model all logic, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic circuits of the vehicle. On-board computerized systems (monitoring, operator help and passenger information system, etc) are simulated as well. Thanks to a very detailed modelling of sub-systems, the behaviour of the vehicle in case of failure is identical to the actual one, making the training in Emergency Situations possible on the simulator.
Passengers’ simulation is a key matter for public transport vehicles drivers. For both bus and tram, passengers are simulated in different situations including waiting at stops, boarding and alighting the vehicle, validating their pass, falling in case of sudden braking etc. Bus kneeling is also simulated.
Sym2B uses proprietary wysiwyg software to efficiently create virtual simulation world, purely imaginary or replicas of existing cities. Roads, tracks and signalling are modelled with details: dedicated lanes, regulation of traffic lights with actual timings, priority given to bus/tram approaching, etc. Existing 3D cities databases can be integrated in our tool, in order to save time and money. Shape files and maps of the actual world (for example from Google Maps/Earth) can be directly used in this tool to quickly create the representation of the simulated landscape.
Many different kinds of road users are simulated: cars, trucks, other buses or tramways, two-wheeled vehicles and pedestrians. Each traffic participant has its own behaviour based on Artificial Intelligence, reacting realistically in all circumstances. Transgressive behaviours can be introduced as pre-defined traffic events in the exercises.
All weather conditions are reproduced: fog, rain, snow, wind, sand storm. Simulation can take place in summer time or in winter time, during the day or at night. Bad weather effect on windscreen is simulated, forcing the driver to use the wipers.
